Getting to Ann Arbor:
To get to Ann Arbor, fly into the Detroit Airport (DTW), which is only 30 miles from Ann Arbor. There is a fantastic shuttle service that goes directly from the airport to downtown Ann Arbor - the Michigan Flyer (http://www.michiganflyer.com/) for only $20 round-trip! Book early to assure a place on the shuttle (other services cost about $40 each way). The Michigan Flyer will pick you up at the terminal (see website for directions to the Michigan Flyer pickup). When you book your ticket, the website has you fill in your airline and will provide info on where to catch the shuttle at either the McNamara Terminal (for Delta) or the North Terminal (for American and all other domestic flights); choose the Blake Transit Center as your destination in Ann Arbor (which is in downtown Ann Arbor).
Once in Ann Arbor, the dorms and campus are within a 10-minute walk from the shuttle stop. There are a number of public buses that go to campus as well (see http://www.theride.org/); they stop at the Central Campus Transit Center (CCTC: see bus route map), and include the 1U, 2 and 4 buses. Please see a downtown map with Blake Transit Center, the Michigan Union, and CCTC marked.
Getting to dorms and meeting venues:
For traveling around campus, there is an interactive map that can provide route information for walking around campus based on the names of buildings you are traveling between. The relevant building for obtaining directions include: the Michigan Union (where the actual meeting will be held), the Ruthven Museum Building (where the evening social will be held), and North Quadrangle, Oxford Housing, and Betsy Barbour (the three buildings on campus for lodging). There is also a static map of central campus that includes locations of dorms.
Places to eat:
There are a number of restaurants on State Street between North University and Washington, as well as on Liberty and Washington, within 3-5 minutes of the Michigan Union. There are also a number of restaurants off of South University towards Church Street and South Forest Streets (also within 5 minutes of the Michigan Union).
For dinner and/or brew-pubs (e.g., Ann Arbor Brewing Company, Grizzly Peak, Jolly Pumpkin, Blue Tractor, Ashley's), you can venture downtown to Main street area). Some recommended restaurants include: Frita Batidos, Mani Osteria and Bar, Sava's, Lena, Cafe Zola, Grange Kitchen and Bar, Logans, Pacific Rim, Mediterrano, Vinology, Black Pearl, Shalimar, Sabor Latino, Knights, Marnee Thai, Tomukun Noodle Bar, and Silvio's. These are all within 5-10 minutes of the Michigan Union.
Housing options:
We reserved rooms in Quadrangle, Oxford Housing, and Betsy Barbour; our allocation is now full, but there may still be some other rooms available in North Quad: contact University Housing directly to inquire (and mention you are going for this meeting).
There are a number of other lodging options within walking distance to the Michigan Union (but these are considerably more expensive than the lodging through the dorm system). These include: Bell Tower Hotel, Campus Inn, Inn at the Michigan League, as well as a couple bed and breakfasts in downtown Ann Arbor. The other hotels are all on the edge of town, and although less expensive, require some transport to campus (note there are some places for public parking).
